This is so NOT cool. What’s up with assholes who feel they were put on this earth to make fun of people for their weight, handicaps, whatever.
In this example, there’s a Facebook group called “Anti-Fat People in Revealing Clothing“. Several of these are of regular “plus-sized” girls wearing what anyone would want to wear to the beach.. namely bathing suits or shorts. These are mixed in with photos of severely overweight people that are nude or wearing thongs, etc.. In other words, making fun of even those of us (yes like me) who are plus sized, and comparing us to the “abnormal”.
I have SO much I want to say about this issue, but I will spare you. Suffice it to say that I am wanting to lose weight and I am sure I will, in time, with the right amount of willpower and discipline. But some women simply cannot, without alot of effort/medical intervention. For many, it’s genetic, or a health-related issue. You can’t just tell them it’s all their fault and simply “lose the fat”. It’s NOT that easy. It’s relatively so IF you’re lucky and can do it with diet and exercise alone. I’m in that category and I am grateful it’s “simply” a matter of my not eating right, and I can reverse this. But for some it takes much more drastic steps than that. And it’s just plain WRONG to make fun of it, on any score.
Secondly, the group’s tagline includes such quotes as:
This is a group for everyone that dreads going to the beach, because you know, They’ll be there… Have some respect for us, people, and don’t force us to look at that.
I have a newsflash for you! If you’re at the beach, you are NOT “forced” to look at the “ugly fat people”. Because, guess what? You don’t have to gawk! Wow! Revelation! Who the F**k asked you to stare and gawk anyway??!
What am I supposed to do while I’m in the process of losing my weight? Hide in my house or wear a potato sack till all my fat is gone? I’ll wear shorts to the beach and be comfortable if I damn well please! I’m not going to wear a thong or short-shorts (I’m not that brave! lol!) but I dont want some asswipe taking a photo of me because I’m wearing a sleeveless tee or my comfy pair of shorts.
Not that I consider myself as severely overweight as some in these photos. There are some extremes here, to say the least! But it does help drive home society’s attitude about obesity in general, whether you’re 20-30 pounds overweight or 150-200+ pounds overweight.
Some people just really suck. And that’s all I have to say. :( One photo showed a woman wearing a sleeveless shirt and shorts, falling asleep while at a festival. One of the comments asked, “Is she dead? Hope so”.
On a lighter note (unintended pun. LOL), here is my video of the Big Brother exterior soundstage, and some of the props they have stored in a fenced-off area in the back. This won’t be all that thrilling unless you’re a die-hard fan like I am. Even so, this might not be all that riveting. ;p But I got a big kick out of being there and seeing some of this stuff in person. Very cool. :)
Had a good time yesterday at the CBS Studio Center, in Studio City. They had their annual 4th of July festivities- inside the studio grounds! I walked around some, ate hot dogs, saw a really cool magic show put on by the Magic Castle, and saw fireworks! (see video below).
I also snuck around a bit outside the Big Brother house! Soundstage #18! The houseguests havent yet moved in but they are getting things ready, and I saw some of the props they used in past shows, including the hammock and the washing machine! Doesnt take much to impress and amuse me. ;) Hehe! Video upcoming..
File this under “no wonder I felt so uneasy about starting this job assignment!”
Apparently UCC Direct needs machines! Not humans! I started working there yesterday and was let go today, along with the other 2 temps who started yesterday with me. ;p WTF. I guess we didn’t catch on fast enough. Geez Louise, hello? We just started!!
Also I think they are looking for people who want to make the mortgage business their career and to stay with them for years and years. Possibly till your teeth fall out. The boss lady even mentioned wanting to know what our future plans are with the company. I’ve only been there a day and a half, and extremely overwhelmed. I dont know yet! ;p (rolls eyes).
We never got that far with her anyway. We were canned before we even had our chat with her. :(
Seriously, they need people with mortgage backgrounds. We didn’t have that, and this was very alien. Too bad they weren’t willing to take much time to train us. Plus they were so damn unorganized. We (us temps) were basically just moved around, sharing a desk and one computer, taking turns doing stuff. It felt chaotic, and overwhelming. I was kinda ready to quit but willing to stuck it out for the week or even 2 or 3, to see how it goes. Especially because I need to work!! And I hate being a flake.
Damn, can’t I just PLEASE find a regular data entry job?
Okay, so lets go over my interests. These are fields of interest where I’d stay with a related company till I get my Gold Watch, if asked to:
Computers/Tech (I love geeky stuff). Books (I’d probably love working at Barnes and Noble or Borders) Entertainment (anything to do with film or television production, including being a personal or production assistant, or working in a production office, or theatre). Photography Digital Graphics/Media (this could include working in advertisement) Internet. (dont’ laugh. Of course I love the web. ;p Don’t we all! ;) But I mean working in ECommerce or doing websites, web design, or a web-design company. Or internet research for a company). Publicity/Publicist. I guess this can also go under “entertainment” or “advertisement” or “internet”. I’ve enjoyed running Rachel’s site, and helping friends spread the word/advertise about their projects, via the web. I’d love to take that on a grander scale.
As far as a regular office job goes, nothing makes me happier than mindlessly entering data into a computer. Some see it as boring drudge. I consider it extremely Zen. I loved doing that at SCIF, and we were even able to listen to our ipods while working.
Well, UCC Direct - R.I.P. Thanks for giving your temps a chance. NOT. ;p
Geez, I even stayed behind extra time at the end of the day yesterday (my 1st day mind you!) helping boss-man finish up proofing some docs that needed to go out FedEx, because the girl that usually does it had to leave early. Way to say thanks, jerks. :-/
Well, as my friend Angela says.. “this just means something much better is around the corner”. :)
Dear Void,
Just in case you’re listening, I had really wanted to see Spring Breakdown on the big screen (again). And no that doesn’t mean a white sheet stretched across the clothes line in the backyard! I had aspirations to buy a big-ass tub of goopy-buttered popcorn and sit in a large air-conditioned theatre and see Rachel and Amy along with hundreds of others all gathered together in a mutual “wow Rachel/Amy/Parker is the most awesome female on the planet!!” show of admiration and support, and having a great time! I’ve seen this film and can vouch for the wonderful time that WOULD HAVE been had for the movie-going public had this been released theatrically.
I don’t see why it couldn’t have had a limited release at least. There’s been some pretty shitty films out there recently that are little more than havens to escape the L.A heatwave. The studios gave them a chance anyway. Why not this?! With the success of “Baby Mama”, and “Sex in the City”, coupled with the really good scores it got from the test audience (of which I was a part), this film more than proved it could hold it’s own!
I seriously don’t get it. But we move on. Last I heard, “Spring Breakdown” will be released July 15th. At first I got excited that the film was getting a second chance! But then I realized “tuesday” is usually the day of the week when DVDs get released. So okay.. we can look forward to the DVD - and PLEASE rent it! Give the film your show of support and rent it the day it comes out! I promise you that you won’t be sorry. It’s not going to change the world and it’s not “Gone With The Wind” masterpiece-worthy. But it’s a damn good time, it’s really funny, it’s fun! The ending ROCKS! And it stars 3 very talented, cute, hilarious women! :)
If you love Rachel Dratch ( I do, and I run her website. Check it out! ), Amy Poehler, Parker Posey, you will be so happy you took my advice! ;-) You will thank me, send me flowers, take me out to dinner and drinks or least a quick lunch and coffee! And you will thank me for having cured what ails you, with a Rx of “rent Spring Breakdown”. Haha!
As befitting the title of this post - I’m wondering why Rachel withdrew from the play “Scramble”. :( Seems sudden and for “no reason given”. Just hoping everything is okay with her.
PLEASE TAKE 60 SECONDS TO HELP POTA WIN A $20,000 GRANT THAT COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
My friend Cindy is founding a non-profit company called “Patron of the Arts” that will create grants for filmmakers to fund their films! She is 1 of only 8 finalists up for a $20K grant! ($10K PLUS we qualify for a bonus $10K grant!) To win she must get the most number of votes before June 30th at 10pm. The competition is TOUGH and she needs your help ASAP!!
First off, I am okay! Thanks to those of you who sent me well-wishes. To those in the dark, I had a harrowing experience late this evening! It made the news!
WicketPixie’s dad helped me with a few links containing possible fixes and that, plus my spending a few hours tweaking numbers (do I know how to have fun on a Saturday night or WHAT??!), I got it working! :) So now all of you who enjoy living life dangerously close to the edge by still using IE (hehehe) can now view this site as intended or as least damn close.
I had to combine the 2 fixes, and tweak a few numbers. If anyone is interested in the fix that resulted, comment and I will send it to you.
So as to show you I do have SOME kind of life (haha), I went to church Asssscat earlier tonight. Was a great show, very funny as always. I LOVE Chad Carter. If he is there (which he almost always is), you know you’re in for a GREAT night!
Morgan Murphy was tonight’s monologist. She was pretty good!
My 2 favorite monologists of all time (from all the ones I have seen since I started going to Asssscat in Summer of 05′) are Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers) and Janeane Garafalo. Just for the record. I think we should unite the 2, put them onstage to tell stories, and that can be the show! And make it a good 2 or 3 hours because I could listen to them all night!
ETA: Okay, I love this theme and am taking it back. Most readers I believe are using Firefox or Safari (looks FANTASTIC in Safari! Just tested it!). So.. to those of you still using IE.. PLEASE use another browser. This site will look far better. Eventually I think the bugs will be worked out. Until then, consider this a message from the divine, and use a safer better browser! ;-)
With a heavy heart, I had to break up with my love tonight. :(
Yes, my love being the “WicketPixie” theme I was using the past several days. I loved it. Really! I had plans for us. For the future. Our kids.. our dream house in the Hamptons…
But it went and looked bad on IE7. I.E balked, and came crying to me that you and he don’t get along. A buddy alerted me tonight about this! I had no choice. I don’t spend alot of time with I.E- in fact not much time at all. But the fact of the matter is that I.E is here to stay and some of my readers do still use it. The ones that live in bat caves and under rocks. ;p
Seriously, I need to wait until there’s a good fix for it. I knew of one and I tried it but it didn’t do the trick. Just made it worse.
I also had issues with “social me” freezing and not refreshing itself. Likely a plug-in issue of some kind, even though everything else to do with the plug-in worked great!
Oh well, WicketPixie. I loved you. You show alot of promise! I may take you back, once you have a bit more therapy and take care of your remaining few issues. I could live without a “social me” page. No big deal. And I’m okay with not using emoticons. But you HAVE to resolve your issues with I.E before I can take you back. That’s just the way it has to be.
For those of you looking for a browser alternative to Firefox or IE or Safari…
I’ve been using “Flock“, which is the same engine as Mozilla Firefox, only with social networking tracking added to it. I first heard about it through Flickr, and I ignored it for a long time but then decided one day to give it a try. I’ve used nothing else since!
The HOME page is the most useful home page I’ve ever experienced! You can have it track all your feeds and it will stream you the latest headlines right there. It will (on same page) track your Flickr account, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook… probably any of the social networks you might belong to. You will know who uploaded a YouTube video or posted on Twitter (if you follow them), or who updated their Facebook… all there on your HOME page.
It will also keep track of your favorite sites - the sites you go to often and the latest sites you’ve visited.
One of the features of the toolbar is the ability to alert you when you have received new email. You can set it up for as many email accounts as you’d like. I have mine set for GMail, since that is what I use the most and I have most all my other email accounts forwarded to there anyway.
The toolbar will also allow you to subscribe easily to feeds or media streams.
I’ve only touched the surface. I haven’t played around with all the settings, but this browser is phenomenal and I don’t know how I did w/o it for so long.
It’s basically Firefox with a shell, powered by Mozilla, so expect the same security and speed as you have come to know and love with Firefox..
